Under the program Verdikt on information technology and communication, the Norwegian Research Council has allocated $ 200 MNOK (approx. 25 million euros) for research projects on the Internet of the future. Over 120 MNOK (15 million euros), representing 60% of the total, are devoted to research on social networks. 25% (50 MNOK) go to the Internet of Things and 15% (30 MNOK) to the mobile internet.

“We had an exceptional number of applications, both from businesses and researchers. This confirms the mobilization of various actors in Norway to meet the challenges of the future of the Internet, social networks and in particular Social media is booming. What makes natural to devote more research on the mechanisms behind the “phenomenon” says program coordinator Olaug Råd.

Example of areas where these technologies can be used: the online learning (eLearning), telemedicine (e-health), the innovative processes in business, technology, games and e-government. It was the first call for research on the Internet of the future, a priority program Verdikt since 2009 and covers areas such as social networks, the Internet of Things and mobile Internet.

Researchers at the University Carlos III of Madrid (UC3M) have developed a configuration that would improve the operation of communications networks and households do far more versatile and flexible to facilitate the functions they perform.

Communication networks of households are developing so rapidly that it is necessary to consider some changes in order to benefit from these new services to come and meet the bandwidth they require. To this end, a group of UC3M researchers presented a new proposal of architecture or residential gateway RGW (Residential Gateway), Which is the computer communications network connects a residential network access from any provider. This work was recently published in the journal Computer Networks is a pioneer in its field, according to its authors. “Other research focuses on defining what functions should have a residential gateway, while we are dedicated to facilitate and ease the way to implement,” says one of its authors, Jaime Garcia Reinoso, Professor, Department of Telematics Engineering of the University of Madrid .

Twenty-fifth day after opening its doors to the largest international trade fair for computer and telecommunications technology CeBit in Hanover, Germany. The 4157 exhibitors from 68 countries will present their innovations to Saturday from the areas of mobile communication, computers and the Internet. For the first time participating in this event and Google and Amazon. There will also be representatives of the Czech Republic.

The main tahakum to include mobile internet and cloud computing, which enables you to run computer applications or store data directly on the Internet.

Like last year, the traditional parade to cope with a tide of exhibitors. Their number is, despite this year’s 300 recruits and the return of some hundreds of renowned companies such as AMD, Motorola, Sony Ericsson and Telefonica lowest in the last twenty years. Even in 2001 there were over 8000 and their products came to Hanover to see 850 thousand visitors. Last year the exhibition hall was visited by 400 thousand people and experts expect that this year the number of candidates from the professional and lay public falls well below this threshold.

The film and video games offer an immersion into the 3D world of increasingly realistic, which is not the case of the Internet. The user is in fact the most often faced with various contents as tabs, lists, text, images or videos in a universe entirely in 2D, however. Researchers at the Institute of Intel visual programming [1] and the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) [2] have jointly developed a new computer language called XML3D, which can incorporate interactive 3D scenes in web pages desired.

Unlike VRML and X3D which never managed to win because of compatibility issues and complexity, new computer language XML3D takes the basics of HTML internationally spread on the canvas and adds 3D capabilities. To use the technology, the user simply needs to install an add. The graphical data are automatically transferred to the graphics card to avoid loading the internal processor. Technically, the computer language supports the latest advances in terms of RIP [3] and ray tracing in real time [4], a graphical rendering of very good quality. These different processes have been developed earlier by the same team of researchers and are now used by chip makers Intel and Nvidia.

Language XML3D can insert interactive 3D content with great flexibility. A simple Web link in text form can eg modify the 3D scene, represent another angle, or start an animation house. All existing websites and can quickly and simply use the interactive 3D. This technology will soon be integrated into the programming libraries, usable with current operating systems format commercial and open source.
