The University of Salamanca, through Bisite research group, and the company tree, located in the Science Park of this academic institution, have developed the ‘aracnocoptero’, a device that enables pilotless flight and has this name because, like spiders, has eight limbs. Two and half years of work have created a unique system for its ability to load and the distance at which it can communicate, so many potential uses has military and civilian, as it can take images and other data.

“The platform consists of the aircraft, a block-based communications and control consists of a very rugged tablet computer and type a command such as video games,” explains Carlos Bernabeu DiCYT statements, founder of trees. The operation is very simple and can be used to monitor military operations or conduct digital mapping.

In the market there are many similar systems, called UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle), but the ‘aracnocoptero’ has more advanced features, allowing a vertical takeoff and carry a payload of up to 3 kilograms (too much weight given that the device weighs 3’5) is removable, is carried in small bags and flight allows extraordinary stability compared with other devices of this type, which vibrate too much to take precise images.

In other systems, analog radio communications are tight at 1,000 meters, but “our protocols are digital communications, with a theoretical range of 100 miles in optimal conditions. With digital radio waves, we have all the information in real time on the tablet, where we see the video and the position of the device on a map, “said Bernabeu.

Safety, sustainability and improved customer service are some of the concepts that will make the highways of tomorrow. This was considered participants in the Oasis project, a Zenith (National Strategic Consortia for Technological Research) for four-year and 30.5 million euro budget which includes four representatives Valladolid: Cartif, Cidaut, GMV and the University Valladolid.

(Hwy.)

The R & D initiative aims to lay the groundwork for the companies participating in the project to develop different elements in your offer (from the innovations achieved) allowing for a better position in international competitions against new entrants in the sector, competing with a strategy based on a lower price.

As explained DiCYT two of the researchers working on the project by the University of Valladolid, Diego Llanos and Arturo Gonzalez, Highway Operation Safe, Intelligent and Sustainable (Oasis) addresses the problem of mobility “from the point of view of infrastructure “, so that is sponsored by major toll road concessions in order to” improve the use to which it gives to infrastructure and increase efficiency. ”

The European project partners Optibody, created to improve the passive safety of cars powered by electricity, are meeting in Zaragoza for the first time after signing the agreement in Brussels. It will participate ten organizations from Spain, Italy, Poland and Sweden.

Optibody Project has a budget of approximately 3 million euros, to be allocated to the investigation of a new concept of modular structural architecture for electric vans and trucks and will seek an improvement in passive safety of these vehicles. This project is coordinated by Juan José Alba, a member of Vehi-Road Engineering Research Institute of Aragon of the University of Zaragoza.

In a future scenario, where structures of electric cars will new open spaces, the project Optibody consider its use to improve passive safety, focusing on vans and light trucks, but later can be applied to other vehicles.

Within 10 to 15 years, the International Energy Agency provides a significant presence of electric vehicles in the global car fleet, so they are developing new technologies that try to improve different aspects such as efficiency, and security structure , and so in the future to present competitive vehicles that may hit the market.

Researchers from the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) are developing algorithms to evaluate the measurement uncertainty of road geometry and correct inertial systems associated errors.

Currently, detailed and accurate digital maps are essential tools to support various systems for driver assistance. In this context, researchers at the University Institute for Automobile Research (INSIA) from UPM have developed an algorithm to evaluate the measurement uncertainty of the geometry of roads with an instrumented vehicle through inertial system also allows correcting the effects associated with vehicle dynamics.

The methods to obtain accurate electronic maps must meet increasingly demanding specifications. The methods available include measured by instrumented vehicle. In turn, you can use two types of instrumentation, inertial sensors and satellite positioning. Both systems are complementary and have advantages and disadvantages. The investigation was based on the first and, in particular, deals with two aspects: first, the estimation of uncertainty in the measurement of the geometry of the road, and, second, the correction of the measurements made to eliminate the effect of vehicle dynamics (1).

One of the biggest fears facing a conductor of electric vehicles is not break load and standing on the road. Due to the early development of this alternative to fossil fuels, even in Spain there is an efficient network of electric charging points to fully satisfy the people who choose this alternative. An application developed by the company intends to mitigate Leon Proconsi this information deficit.

Through a software universal, you can use any manufacturer of these places of supply, the driver of an electric vehicle can have real time information to both its consumption and the nearest points to where you are. The application is called Prism, and is configured as an intelligent platform that incorporates different statistical and positional information.

According to the responsible development of the R & D, Mauricio Aguilar, with this action, business, Proconsi, “has made a natural leap to electric power sector, as the company is linked to the development of applications for hydrocarbons sector. “ Implies “a commitment to the future.”

A team of engineers at the University of Alcala de Henares (UAH, Madrid) has developed a new system to better detect ships in rough seas, according to this month’s magazine IET Radar, Sonar & Navigation. The technique involves the analysis of radar images and apply an algorithm based on artificial neural networks.

Existing systems that detect ships at sea, but a group of engineers from the UAH, led by researcher Raul Vicente, introduced as a new “use of artificial intelligence techniques and improving the templates that are used to select data input. ”

The team presents a new method of detection that exceeds that which is commonly used so far, besides presenting the benefits of a low computational cost and can be used in real time. ”

The new system, whose details are published in the journal IET Radar, Sonar & Navigation, Aims to collect information first radar images through a series of templates designed by scientists. This phase will use data from the usual scans performed by the radar (horizontal and vertical modes) and more advanced (in cross and cross).

A SiC diode inverter to control the motors of electric trains

Toshiba showcased at Nano Tech’s 2001 Tokyo diodes in silicon carbide for power inverters and variable frequency controlling the motors of electric trains.

Most electric trains that circulate in the world are equipped with induction motors, controlled by an inverter that converts DC power into three phase. Control the output frequency will control the speed of rotation.

In an induction motor, the rotor and stator are both electromagnets. The variation of the stator magnetic field induces an electric current in the rotor starts to turn to try to oppose this change. The engine is called asynchronous because the speed of rotation of the rotor field (and thus the rotor) can be equal to the variation of stator field (as if that were the case, as the rotor, stator fields cease to vary This would void the current induced in the rotor). This feature allows you to control multiple motors (typically four) with a single UPS. These engines have a relatively low yield (90-92%), making it the worst performing facilities in the drivetrain.

A team of researchers from the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) has devised a mathematical procedure to evaluate the vibrations produced by the train when traveling on the road. The model has been validated with data from the Madrid-Barcelona AVE line, to predict the pattern of vibrations depending on the type of train and the material and condition of the road.

The construction of new railway lines or the burial of the former have risen in recent years the social interest in vibration, especially in people who live or work near the tracks. In this context, a study led by the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) to estimate the path that follows the vibrations from the point of generation (wheel-rail contact) to the ground.

“The model acts as a ‘virtual test lab’, so that if you change the parameters of the train or road package can infer what the resulting vibration pattern,” explains to SINC Julia Real, professor of transport and railways in the UBC and lead author of the study. “This is ideal for testing changes, if they work, can lead to reality.”

If, for example, enter data from a bird “duck bill” instead with different mechanical properties are obtained different vibration patterns, and the same is true when comparing a flawless way of leveling with another aging, or to change the status or type of material where the tracks are recorded.
