The Romanian scientific community and the Government of Romania intends to promote the creation of an International Center for Advanced Research “Danube – Danube Delta – Black Sea” for basic research and application of sustainable and adaptive management areas wetlands and river systems – Sea World.

The International Center for Advanced Search “Danube – Delta – Black Sea” (CIRADDMN) is one of the largest research facilities in Europe geonomic science and environmental problem-oriented modern management, integrated and adaptive systems River – Wed Consequently, the main objective of the moment will be the creation of a modern infrastructure for integrated, multidisciplinary research that can offer excellent conditions for research teams from Romania and other countries, especially the European Union to study the example of the Danube Delta, the processes that influence the evolution of the environmental state of wetlands, deltas and coastal areas.

The CIRADDMN also be used in the training process and ongoing development of young researchers from Romania, the European Union and other countries. The Centre will operate as a focal point for this activity. Refresher courses and specialization, graduate schools, orientation courses for young people of pre-university and university will be organized. A database for education and dissemination of knowledge will be created.

The European Union is preparing a project which aims to explore the upper atmosphere above 10 km height at which passenger aircraft usually fly: COPAL – a powerful fleet that carry equipment for Research and European researchers will use to study the upper atmosphere.

In 2008, the project has been accepted by COPAL the European Commission. The C130 Hercules aircraft will be modified so that they can accommodate scientific laboratories. A single-plane lab will cost about 50 million euros. The fleet will be ready in 2012-2013 and this time, the research program COPAL take off. The command center will be in France, the National Center for Meteorological Research (CNRM) of Météo-France. On the official website [1] found the eleven institutions that contribute to the construction of flying laboratories. Although none of these institutes are located in Romania, she will participate in the research program COPAL since Romania has been accepted as a member state of COPAL in October 2009.

Planes, boats and cars can operate using fuel cells. The main drawback is the production and storage of hydrogen necessary.

An interesting technology is reforming [1]. The Land of North Rhine Westphalia has set up a project under the supervision of Adelheid Research Centre Julich (FZJ) in the context of regional competitiveness initiative Ziel2.NRW in partnership with the European Union. With financial support from 2 million euros over three years, the project should allow manufacturers and scientists to work on it for a quick marketing of a marketable system.

Many reformers have already been tested in the laboratories of FZJ. Professor Ralf Peters, project manager, now wants to transform research results into marketable solutions. For this the FZJ will work with industry partners such as: Presswerk Struthutten, GSR Ventiltechnik Thomas Magnete and FRIGOBLOCK Grosskopf.

Using high speed cameras and computer models, a team of researchers at Cornell University has revealed exactly how they maneuver around the air fruit flies, and how they maintain their flight stability even when a strong gust of wind suddenly diverted its trajectory.

The research team, who include Jane Wang, professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering, physicist Itai Cohen and mathematician John Guckenheimer, invented a method for measuring the subtle movements of wings that allow the flies do their abrupt turning maneuvers flight.

The team made their observations with three high-speed video cameras recorded every slight movement of insects when they reacted to the presence of patterns of light and dark stripes. This optical illusion deceived the flies, which made abrupt turns in flight.

In April 2008, was officially launched MetaHIT (Metagenomics of the Human Intestinal Tract). The aim of this European project involving ten European research institutions among the most competent, two food manufacturers and pharmacy and a Chinese institute, is to characterize genes and bacterial functions of the intestinal flora and study the effects of this genome in terms of nutrition and health.

In a four-year project, totaling 20 million euros, of which 11.4 million are European funded under the FP7, is even more important it is estimated that 80% of bacterial species housed at the human gastrointestinal tract are still unknown. In addition, the genome of all these bacteria contain a hundred times more genes than the human genome.

The first sequencing of genes of bacteria housed in the human digestive tract, or metagenome, conducted as part of this European project by an international consortium of scientists coordinated by INRA in Jouy-en-Josas and involving the Life Sciences Division of the CEA (Genoscope, Institute of Genomics, Evry), has been published in the journal Nature, dated March 4.

Methane is a very stable molecule, its degradation without oxygen or sulphate seemed impossible, at least we thought until in 2006 a team of researchers discovered a bacteria anaerobic, ie they can live without oxygen Methylomirabilis oxyfera able to oxidize methane without using oxygen. To achieve this, the organism uses some particular nitrites in freshwater sediments of agricultural areas. Today, the same research team, the fruit of an international collaboration involving the CEA, CNRS and Universite d’Evry-Val d’Essonne, just to show that the same bacterium, by an enzymatic process entirely new product in itself makes the oxygen from the nitrite and uses it to oxidize methane. The work that led to the discovery of this new method for producing oxygen that could be prior to the onset of photosynthesis, thus making possible the existence of an aerobic metabolism in an atmosphere devoid of oxygen comes from be published in the journal Nature dated March 25.

Methylomirabilis Oxyfera is developing very slowly in an anaerobic environment and within a complex microbial community, the understanding of this new method for producing oxygen has not been easy. Therefore, researchers Genoscope Directorate of Life Sciences CEA did they use a holistic approach by sequencing the entire DNA of this community. And it is from these sequence data that they have mapped the genome of this bacterium. With the results obtained, the researchers were then able to demonstrate that genes typically involved in the reduction of nitrite were absent from this genome, which led them to suggest that there is another way of reduction of nitrite in this bacterium and , moreover, that it is capable of producing her own oxygen and use it to oxidize methane.

Technology Agency of the Czech Republic to consolidate domestic support for applied research and development, today launched a program that over the next six years, distributed to promote the technological development of 7.5 billion crowns for the approximately 750 projects.

Program for technological development called Alpha is divided into three parts, reflecting the partnership with the Ministries of Industry and Trade, transport and the environment. They are 1st progressive technologies, materials and systems, 2 energy resources and protecting the environment and creating a 3 sustainable transport development.

Applications should be submitted before the end of May. The first money should doputovat to successful applicants in the next year. Condition is that the level of support for the project shall not exceed 80 percent, the rest must be supplied non-public sphere, said Klusacek. Counts but the fact that the average level of grant aid will be around 65 percent. In the first year would be in the program to utilize Alfa 817 million crowns.

Germany currently holds a dominant position in the worldwide market for embedded systems, however, she could lose with the arrival of the new generation of computational physical systems (CPS) . That is why the German Academy of Engineering Sciences acatech  brought together representatives of scientific bodies, economic and political conference at a February 2, 2010 in Munich to talk on the theme “Integrated research concept Cyber-Physical System “. Representatives of acatech, from Intel, Siemens, Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Technical University of Munich intervened to explain the position that Germany should adopt to deal change of generation in embedded systems.
