A team of teachers and students of Engineering of the University of La Rioja (UR) has been involved in designing CENER 125, a prototype of a hydraulic press that allows testing the resistance of the materials used in solar panels, with applications in the field renewables.
Directed by Jules White, professor of School of Industrial Engineering at the UR, students of Industrial Engineering in Mechanical Acha Hector and Sergio Blanco have worked with the Department of Engineering Marzola private enterprise in the design of a hydraulic press that is capable of testing the strength and durability of panels and plates used in construction of solar light receptors. The first sketch of the prototype, called CENER 125, was prepared on 4 December and the final has been released to the market through the Internet.
The design of CENER 125 is unique in Spain, since this type of press are usually bought in Germany or France. This prototype supports a pressure of up to 125 tons, has higher precision presses normal load, and better control and variability of pressure and temperature cycles through the two-channel plates with heating / cooling for the parts that are submitted.

In the near future, we may encounter in the corridors of hospitals robots to five feet in height with a screen as a face and showing the image of a doctor greeted his colleagues in passing. The RP7 robot is connected via the Internet to physicians worldwide who can now carry out operations remotely. In fact, this doctor could be a few hundred miles away, which did not prevent him to travel virtually to the hospital to make his next surgery or visit his patients. There is already a reality in 350 hospitals worldwide, the majority located in the United States, using the RP-7 robot inalambrique American society InTouch Health [1].

Since February, 2009, China became the largest producer and user of automobiles in the world. During the month of January 2009, a total of 735,000 cars were sold in China against 656,976 vehicles sold in the United States. The increase in car sales in China is such that car dealers have a steady stream of customers.

On this basis, the Chinese auto companies have defined their own development and the various guidelines to follow. In a research context of clean energy and in anticipation of future oil shortages, the development of the automotive industry is moving towards alternative solutions for future energy supply such as battery electric, fuel cell or hydrogen.

A team of engineers at the University of Leon has studied the effectiveness of these new devices and determined that, although effective, still some problems that prevent full automation of the process. The first results were published in the International Journal of Advanced Technologies Manual.

“The goal of the research proposal was to analyze the applicability of two systems of measurement and control tolerances,” said Susana Martinez, one of the members of the research team. Tolerance is the small margin of millimeters, which can move the manufacture of a piece. Control inspection systems that are manufactured every time one of these pieces are within tolerances. Until now, an operator to manually performed through a touch sensor. It shall determine where the shots were made. From the University of Leon is to reach a final goal, the automation of this process, important in a production line. The inspection, not in vain, is conducted both at the same time that the pieces are made as at the end when the product is assembled.

Researchers at the University of Madrid (UPM) have developed a fully automated for the detection of aircraft noise monitoring stations that can distinguish the sounds produced by aircraft noise from other sources

Under the project Hesiod investigators Universidad Politecnica de Madrid (UPM) have developed a tool to automatically identify whether a sound is produced by an aircraft, achieving success rates close to 97% plus cut costs in the measurements.

In recent days it has been demonstrated again the problems associated with airport noise produced in connection with relaxation and neighbors.

Among the main existing tools for the management of airport noise are integrated monitoring systems. Currently, the main existing systems make the detection of aircraft noise by relying on airport radar systems.

Scientists at the National Energy Laboratory of Brookhaven in New York (USA) have recreated the highest temperature never reached since the Big Bang, 250,000 times hotter than that recorded in the center of Sun and close to the four trillion degrees centigrade.

To do this, physicists have used the particle accelerator Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC), A “brother” or the European Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Inside crashes have occurred gold ions so that have been recreated superheated blast of only milliseconds. ‘The RHIC was designed to create matter at temperatures present in the earliest stages of formation of Universe”, They explained.” This temperature is hot enough to melt protons and neutron”Said the researcher with the center, Steven Vigdor, in a lecture at the American Physical Society in Washington. These particles form the atoms But in turn are made of smaller components called quarks and gluons.

Specifically, scientists look for small irregularities that could explain why matter is formed in the early stages. Also, expect to find more practical applications, such as spintronics, An emerging technology that aims to make computing devices smaller, faster and more powerful.

The benefits of oil pans of polymers rather than metal in terms of weight and costs can be further strengthened if the joints and screws used to seal and fix the casing to the engine block can be replaced by a single glue. This is precisely what companies BASF and Wacker (chemical industry) have come to realize.

The automation of traditional production lines has been relatively easy. Being structured environments where the pieces are perfectly positioned, robots need only be able to get near that place, to recognize the piece and place it elsewhere. However, production lines have changed much in recent years. As explained Eusebio de la Fuente, Professor, Department of Systems Engineering and Automation at the University of Valladolid, in the latest “there are several mixtures, differing in size and appearance, and often on the move, which is feasible automatic handling thanks to artificial vision systems.

Members of the Department working in this field and have successfully developed highly complex projects.

The Research Group Engineering (GIIC) from the Polytechnic University of Valencia has presented the Speed Kidney (SK), a new device that presents itself as an alternative to the traditional speed bumps, also called projections or sleeping guard, which prevents both their discomforts as the mechanical wear on vehicles. Their advantages also helps reduce noise in the environment.

The device consists of a protrusion per lane with a kidney-shaped in plan and elevation form bulky with low-rise, located longitudinally, so that the driver only needs to follow a zigzag path, very soft and leave it between the wheels.

A group of engineers at the University Carlos III of Madrid (UC3M) has developed a racing motorcycle that will debut in the Championship of Spain this year. The prototype, designed under the rules of the category Moto2, will begin filming in circuit in the coming weeks.

The short term objective is that this bike will soon debut in the Championship of Spain. “We can not venture what the performance on track, because in a dynamic set as complex as a motorcycle there are too many variables to consider and that may determine its ultimate performance,” explains the engineer Jose Perez, Technical Director of the Laboratory Motorcycles Machine (MaqLab) of UC3M, developing this project in collaboration with the MDT team HUNE Racing Team.
