The German Internet Index (TEN) for optimal development of the Internet

The Institute for Internet Security [1] ITU (Fahrhochschule) Gelsenkirchen (Nordrhein-Westfalen) [2] starts, in collaboration with partners, the research project TEN (Deutscher Internet Index) .

This is an Internet Index that is the future improve data transfer and Internet security on the German network. The project is supported by the Ministry of Economy and Technology (BMWi) in the amount of 570,000 euros for a period of 3 years. Among the project partners are DE-CIX (German Internet Exchange network) [3] and ECO (the group of German Internet industry) [4].

Norbert Pohlmann, director of the Institute for Safety, hopes to find concrete answers: “What should we do in the future for the German Internet to meet the growing technical challenges?” The goal is to provide advice to the Internet industry, policy and citizens. The China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) announced Wednesday, May 2 decision of ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, to allow traditional and simplified Chinese characters in Internet domain names. This authorization involves the creation of a domain (which is the pinyin translation. “Zhongguo”, “China” in Mandarin) as the equivalent of characters. “Cn” Current used for sites referenced in China.
