Researchers from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) are exploring the possibility of developing wireless devices benefiting from mobile broadband services at lower cost to the user.

In doing so, they joined forces with National Instruments (NI) [1] to develop these solutions by sealing their partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding to NTU March 10, 2010. Thus, under the program NTU Wireless Research-NI, NI will provide 2.07 million Singapore dollars Equipment Technology Centre (Wireless Positioning and Wireless Technology Center), a dependent entity of the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering NTU. The material provided will support the work on the various techniques of “wireless” and thus to develop communication protocols for the future.

Indeed, the current problems of wireless technology is the growing shortage of frequency spectrum used, subject to current regulations on the allocation of available frequencies. Therefore, the aim of the work will be to develop a generation of wireless technology to relay radio signals and scan frequencies to identify the available airwaves without interfering with the user initially connected. Leading not only to a technological breakthrough, this process will also impact on current business models and inspire new ideas for the benefit of every mass market as well as military users.

The collaborative partnership with NTU an industrialist based on sharing resources and expertise can expand its research capacity and training. It allows the implementation of educational objectives of NTU to prepare graduates for professional careers in the high tech industry and advanced research.
