The gender difference is not just about hormones

The sexes differ in their physiology and the incidence and susceptibility to various diseases. To date, three hypotheses have been proposed to explain these differences: they could be the result of hormones secreted specifically by gender, the genes on the Y chromosome (and therefore not in females) or higher expression of genes on the X chromosome in females (by his presence twice). Researchers at the Institute of Agrarian Research and Technology and Food in Madrid (INIA), in collaboration with a German colleague and an Irishman, recently proposed an alternative hypothesis that they were published in the journal PNAS this month it: the differences between the sexes might be the consequence of genes non-sex chromosomes, the autosomes.

The project to develop a supercomputer next generation, which aimed to achieve the fastest machine in the world [1], searching for a new course for the curriculum revision of the State which has challenged in November 2009. During this evaluation, the committee noted the lack of efforts to understand the importance of the project to the population and lack of user participation in design. The project is currently under construction. Under the 2010 budget, the Government has provided funding for the continuation of the project but removed the additional initial investment required to ensure the best performance in the world. It follows that achieving this goal is uncertain. However, the government must continue to allocate the project a considerable amount of the order of tens of billions of yen [2] each year until its completion in 2012.

Good or bad, we provide answers to adapt to the environment are the subject of a single process control brain.

Some neuroscientists believe that the human brain is able to unconsciously detect errors made during an action through a specific brain processes. Others believe that the error handling is the same way as that of good responses, a single brain process control which continually checks whether the information is processed in line with the environment or context. Results obtained by Clemence Roger, Franck Vidal, Thierry Hasbroucq and Boris Burle, Laboratory of Neurobiology of cognition (CNRS and University of Provence), and Christian Benar (Inserm U.751), Marseille, argue in favor of second hypothesis.

In 1991, the team of Michael Falkenstein, Dortmund, had shown that when we are wrong in performing a cognitive task – for example, recognize a letter or a color

=> Gunze develops a transparent conductive film

Gunze has presented the show “Nanotech 2010” a new transparent film made conductive through the son of money printed on its surface. The printing is done by a technique of roll to roll [1] on a substrate of a width not exceeding 1 300 mm. For a transparency of 78%, the film resistance is 0.5 ohms per square [2]. It is 1.6 ohms per square for a transparency of 88%. The film is intended for the manufacture of touch screens.

Mitsubishi Electric has announced February 16, 2010 Development of a new MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracker – Detector of Maximum Power Point) for charge controllers for PV modules. It would provide power for up to two times higher than that obtained by conventional methods.

A MPPT can force the PV system to obtain and maintain maximum power. But because of changing weather conditions, the maximum point of power system is highly variable and should routinely be determined by the MPPT.

Mitsubishi Electric has developed a storage unit of electrical energy which incorporates a single cell lithium-ion and lithium-ion capacitor. It would be particularly suitable for storing energy recovered during braking of vehicles with large engines and smoothing of the production of photovoltaic modules. This technology, which is the subject of 14 patent applications, allows to combine the speed of load capacitors to the sustainability of lithium-ion batteries.

In the near future, we may encounter in the corridors of hospitals robots to five feet in height with a screen as a face and showing the image of a doctor greeted his colleagues in passing. The RP7 robot is connected via the Internet to physicians worldwide who can now carry out operations remotely. In fact, this doctor could be a few hundred miles away, which did not prevent him to travel virtually to the hospital to make his next surgery or visit his patients. There is already a reality in 350 hospitals worldwide, the majority located in the United States, using the RP-7 robot inalambrique American society InTouch Health [1].

Since February, 2009, China became the largest producer and user of automobiles in the world. During the month of January 2009, a total of 735,000 cars were sold in China against 656,976 vehicles sold in the United States. The increase in car sales in China is such that car dealers have a steady stream of customers.

On this basis, the Chinese auto companies have defined their own development and the various guidelines to follow. In a research context of clean energy and in anticipation of future oil shortages, the development of the automotive industry is moving towards alternative solutions for future energy supply such as battery electric, fuel cell or hydrogen.

The research group GAVAB-Capo, University Rey Juan Carlos (Rey Juan Carlos) developed machine vision systems with multiple applications in video surveillance and security tasks, monitoring, human-computer interaction, and analysis of sports technique. They are computational systems that perform a sequence of images to extract a truthful, and close to natural language.

These models, algorithms and software that allow solving problems of automatic recognition of human activities by analyzing image sequences with special attention to its application in video surveillance systems.

The developed systems are based on the development of visual tracking methods, an area in which researchers have innovative proposals recently published in magazines like Neurocomputing, Machine Vision and Applications, Pattern Recognition Letters, Expert Systems with Applications or Expert Systems. The techniques developed and automatically distinguish basic actions carried out by humans, such as walking, running, jumping, bending, etc..

Specifically, the goal of automated video surveillance is to detect, recognize and track objects in sequences of images to describe and understand their behavior.

Observing the universe in the range of ultraviolet radiation (UVR) allows the study of the chemical composition of matter to which they point their telescopes. Because unfortunately this type of radiation is absorbed by the atmosphere, the only place to install such instruments is the observation space. The Hubble telescope does that very well but it will happen soon after the race and not with what can be done better so far. The WSO-UV project led by Russia [1] rightly intended to send into space a telescope UV art.
